The leopard is the most secretive and elusive of the large carnivores, and also the shrewdest. Pound for pound, it is the strongest climber of the larger cats and is capable of killing prey far larger than itself. Today, leopards live in 26 range countries scattered across the African and Asian continents and are subdivided into nine sub-species based on their genetic divergence and distinction. Of these, the Sri Lankan leopard is one of only two sub-species restricted to islands.

NEGOMBO

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport. You will be greeted by your chauffeur guide / national guide upon arrival. Thereafter you will be transferred to your hotel in Negombo (approximately 30 minutes’ drive). Relax at the hotel by the pool and the beach. Dinner & overnight stay in Negombo.

Day 2

WILPATTU

Breakfast at the hotel and proceed to Wilpattu (approximately 03 ½ hours’ drive). Have your lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, proceed on a jeep safari in Wilpattu National Park which is the largest and oldest national park with an area of 130,000 hectare. The main draw in the park is the leopard and the sloth bear. Dinner & overnight stay in Wilpattu.

WILPATTU

With a packed breakfast and lunch, proceed on a full-day jeep safari in Wilpattu National Park looking for the Sri Lankan Leopard. Dinner & overnight stay in Wilpattu.

KATARAGAMA

A long drive after breakfast at the hotel to reach Kataragama (approximately 07 hours’ drive) close to Lunugamvehera National Park. Check in to the hotel, if time permits, do an afternoon jeep safari in Lunugamvehera National Park which is quite new and famous for the Sri Lanka Leopard. Have your lunch at a local restaurant en-route. Dinner & overnight stay in Kataragama.
